In the aim of having a safe and enjoyable camp, I would like to inform you all of the rules which I’ve compiled to ensure the safety of the campers and of the camp site.
Fires Please use the fireplaces built for fires
No fire (flames) should be more than 1.2 m in height
If permission is granted for fires not in fireplaces do the following - A one-meter clearing (of everything except the sand) around the fire is necessary, with a further one meter of clearing of all the long grass (all grass over 5 cm long). N.B. THIS IS NOT TO BE DONE BY LIGHTING THE GRASS!!!!!!!
The fire must be made in a hole with rocks surrounding it.
If a windshield could be organised it would be advisable.
The woodpile must be located at least 3 meters away from the fire.
Fire fighting equipment needs to be at the fireplace
Each fire requires an attendant at ALL times, if no one from the team can watch the fire its must be extinguished.
Gas cooking is preferred, but take note that gas causes a fire just as an open fire. Take care.
In the event of a fire on or near the farm ALL activities will be suspended and everybody to help. (One Scout/Scouter/Adult to remain behind to look after campsite and make coffee for returning fire fighters)
It may appear that there is lots of wood, please use wood sparingly
Security The plot is surrounded by game fencing, but all equipment and personal belongings should be kept in a secure place and not left lying around.
No one is to walk around alone. Inform PL and/or Scouter/Adult when leaving campsite.
Gates must be kept closed at all times (unless otherwise informed)
No place is 100% secure – Be Alert, Be Prepared
Water Water is from a borehole, and is drinkable (tested regularly).
Use the water wisely / do not waste
Do not wash pots/pans etc near the water taps meant for drinking
Use wash basins near storeroom for washing dishes - keep clean. left over food must be placed in a bag and not down the drain
